Tamarac Wildlife refuge

What a BEAUTIFUL gem just outside of Detroit Lakes, MN. We instantly felt "away". "Away" meaning far from other people and busy city life. This area is full of lakes and lots of trees. Trumpeter swans bask in the lakes and streams. The North Country Trail  runs through the refuge and allows for some decent hiking. We took the scenic drive and really enjoyed it. I look forward to doing more exploring here in the winter and summer. We noticed two cross country ski trails which made us pretty excited.  The fall colors were fabulous. This is where we come from. Though a lot of this land is prairie there is also plenty of rolling hills, trees, lakes and rivers. I love going to the state parks in this area in the fall. The snow and rolling hills in the lake country offer up some fun cross country skiing.
