Alternate Nostril Breathing
I really enjoy this mediation practice. I find that it helps me stay in the moment rather than thinking of a million other things. You can do this practice anywhere. All you need is you!
To start- sit up tall and in a comfortable position. This could be in a chair, on a pillow, or on the floor. Whatever works for you. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Breathe in for 4 counts. Breathe out for 4 counts. After a few deep breaths place your pinky finger on one nostril and your thumb on the other. Close one nostril with your pinky finger and breathe in through the other nostril. At the top of the breathe release your pinky finger and close the other nostril with your thumb and exhale. Now inhale through this same nostril. At the top of the breathe release your thumb and close the other nostril with your pinky finger and exhale. Keep this pattern going. Inhaling and exhaling. Continue this practice for 5 minutes. Set a timer if it will help you stay present. Feel free to extend the practice for as long as you would like. When complete, release your hand and take a few more deep breaths through both nostrils. When you are finished, open your eyes.
